Volunteer Work at Local Animal Shelter

Hollison’s passion for dogs and pets isn’t just in probiotics but in volunteering and working with animals as well.

Hollison has regularly volunteered at Daviess County Animal Shelter, a shelter in Kentucky which receives roughly 3,000 animals a year. Some are returned to their home; others find new homes but unfortunately some are never placed and stay at the shelter.

The shelter relies heavily on volunteers to provide time outside of the kennels for these dogs. Going out to the shelter and spending time with them provides the dogs with a longer break outside to enjoy some fresh air and sun! The shelter also has play yards set up that allow the dogs to run freely where volunteers can throw a ball with them.

Hollison volunteers by taking these dogs on walks, playing with the dogs in the play yards, and giving them baths. The goal is to have Hollison employees volunteer at the shelter at least twice a year, more if possible.

The shelter also has an adoption event the first Saturday of every month at PetSmart and Hollison has volunteered on the Friday prior by helping bathe dogs in preparation for this event.

We also have employees who have volunteered doing a Dog’s Day Out where you check a dog out of the shelter for an hour or for the whole day. This not only gives the dogs a reprieve from the sometimes stressful environment of a shelter but also allows people who don’t visit the shelter an opportunity to meet the dog.

This led to one of our employees’ husbands taking a dog for Dog’s Day Out at his work which led to one of his coworkers adopting her!

If you’re inspired by Hollison’s volunteer work and are interested in volunteering at an animal shelter in your area, you can learn more by visiting VolunteerMatch or The Humane Society. Volunteering can make a huge difference in the lives of animals in need. Thank you for considering this compassionate work!
